100 Gigabit inside the rack without optics

This is a passive direct attach cable: a twinax copper assembly with a QSFP28 plug moulded onto each end, so the transceiver and the patch lead become one part. It carries 100 Gbps, and steps down to 40 Gbps where the port is configured that way. At a one-metre length it is aimed squarely at top-of-rack work such as switch-to-switch stacking, uplinking a second switch in the same cabinet, or attaching a server directly beneath. Nothing to clean, nothing to align, nothing to lose.

Passive copper draws no power and adds no processing

A passive DAC has no retimer, no DSP and no laser: the signal travels as electrical differential pairs straight from one switch SerDes to the other. That means no power budget consumed in the cable, no heat added to a dense cabinet, and none of the latency a powered active cable or an optical transceiver pair introduces. It also removes the two most common 100G failure modes, dirty fibre end-faces and misinserted optics. Fewer parts in the path generally means fewer things to troubleshoot at three in the morning.

Built to route cleanly in a crowded cabinet

The conductor is silver-plated copper at 30 AWG, and the assembly holds a minimum bend radius of 33 mm, which is the number to check against your cable management before ordering. Each QSFP28 plug measures 72.45 x 18.35 x 13.50 mm and the overall length is 1,000 mm, so it reaches across a rack without leaving a large service loop to dress. Rated 0 to 70 degrees C operating and -40 to 85 degrees C in storage, with 10 to 90 percent non-condensing operating humidity.

Use it wherever two QSFP28 cages sit within a metre of each other.
