PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
TP-Link Omada 10G Multi-Gigabit SFP Media Converter (MC420L) - 5 Years Local Warranty
The MC420L is Omada's 10G media converter: one SFP+ cage and one multi-gigabit RJ45 port in a 94.5 mm desktop shell. It bridges a 10 Gbps fibre run onto copper at 1G, 2.5G, 5G or 10 Gbps, letting a single link reach a switch, server or NAS that has copper ports only. The SFP+ slot is left open so the optic matches the fibre already installed.
One SFP+ Cage, One Multi-Gigabit Copper Port
The converter presents a single 10 Gbps SFP+ port on the fibre side and a single RJ45 port that auto-negotiates at 1 Gbps, 2.5 Gbps, 5 Gbps or 10 Gbps on the copper side. That range matters in practice: the copper end will link up with whatever it meets, so a 10G fibre backbone can terminate on a 2.5G NAS port or a 5G workstation NIC without a speed mismatch stopping the link. Half-duplex and full-duplex transfer modes are both auto-negotiated.
Distance Is Set by the Optic You Choose
TP-Link leaves the SFP+ slot empty and states plainly that maximum transmission distance depends on the inserted SFP module, with the wavelength likewise determined by that module. The 10GBASE-R side accepts a multi-mode or single-mode SFP+ module, so the same converter serves a short in-building multi-mode run or a long single-mode link between buildings. SourceIT stocks the matching Omada SFP+ optics and DAC cables, and can supply the converter and the module together.
Copper Reach Follows the Cable Grade
On the 10GBASE-T side, TP-Link specifies UTP Cat 6 to a maximum of 55 m, or STP Cat 6 and above to a maximum of 100 m. At the lower copper speeds - 1000BASE-T, 2.5GBASE-T and 5GBASE-T - UTP Cat 5e or above carries a full 100 m. Knowing which grade is in the wall therefore decides whether a 10 Gbps copper leg will reach, and is worth confirming before a site is committed to 10GBASE-T rather than fibre for the last hop.
Low Power, Fanless, Standards-Compliant
Maximum power consumption is 4.12 W from an external power adapter, and the unit carries PWR and Link/Act LEDs for at-a-glance status. It complies with IEEE 802.3ab, 802.3an, 802.3z, 802.3ae, 802.3aq and 802.3x, covering Gigabit and 10G copper, Gigabit and 10G fibre, and flow control. At 94.5 x 73.0 x 27.0 mm it sits on a shelf, in a cabinet tray or behind equipment, and TP-Link publishes an operating range of 0 to 50 degrees Celsius.
Ideal For
Singapore sites extending a 10 Gbps fibre link to copper-only equipment - a NAS, a server, a small switch or a workstation - and integrators who need one converter that will link at 1G, 2.5G, 5G or 10G rather than stocking one part per speed. Supplied by SourceIT with local Singapore warranty, GST invoice and project pricing on request.

TP-Link publishes no MTBF figure and no CE or FCC row for this model, so none is claimed here. The safety and emission row is reproduced exactly as published.
Compatibility & Software Support
The MC420L is a standalone media converter. TP-Link publishes no management interface, firmware or controller support for it, and it cannot be adopted into an Omada Software Controller, Hardware Controller or Cloud-Based Controller. It passes traffic transparently between the fibre and copper sides; the switches at either end own the configuration.
| Omada SDN Controller | Not supported — the converter cannot be adopted or centrally managed |
| Management Interface | None published — no web GUI, CLI or firmware configuration |
| SFP+ Module | Not included. Multi-mode or single-mode SFP+ module, chosen to match the fibre plant |
| Interoperability | Standards-based: works with any IEEE 802.3-compliant equipment at the supported speeds |
TP-Link does not publish a per-switch or per-optic compatibility list for the MC420L. If you would like us to confirm a specific combination, send us the switch model and the fibre type and we will check it before quoting.

Frequently Asked Questions — MC420L
Does the MC420L come with an SFP+ module?
No. The SFP+ slot ships empty so you can match the optic to your fibre. TP-Link states that both maximum distance and wavelength depend on the module you insert. SourceIT can supply the matching Omada SFP+ optic or DAC cable with the converter.
Will the copper port link at 2.5 Gbps or 5 Gbps?
Yes. The RJ45 port auto-negotiates at 1G, 2.5G, 5G and 10 Gbps, so it will link with multi-gigabit NICs and switch ports as well as with 10G ones.
Can the MC420L be managed from an Omada Controller?
No. TP-Link publishes no controller support for this model. It is a transparent converter with no management interface — the switches at either end carry the configuration.
What warranty does SourceIT provide?
Five years local Singapore warranty, under Omada's replacement warranty tier for media converters. Every MC420L sold by SourceIT comes with a GST invoice.
Can SourceIT quote this for a project or tender?
Yes. Send the bill of materials and we will quote the whole Omada build — controller, gateway, switching, access points, optics and converters — with local warranty and support.
