PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
TP-Link Omada Gigabit SFP Media Converter (MC220L) - 5 Years Local Warranty
The MC220L converts a Gigabit copper link to fibre using an SFP module of your choosing. One 1000M SFP slot and one 10/100/1000M RJ45 port sit in a compact 94.5 mm shell drawing under 2 W. Because the SFP cage is left empty, the same converter serves a short multi-mode run inside a building or a long single-mode link between them.
An Open SFP Slot Instead of a Fixed Optic
Where a fixed-optic converter commits you to one fibre type and one distance, the MC220L takes any 1000BASE-X SFP module - multi-mode or single-mode. TP-Link states explicitly that the maximum transmission distance and the wavelength both depend on the module inserted. That makes it the flexible choice when a site has mixed fibre, or when you want one converter part number on the shelf that can be adapted to whichever run needs it. SourceIT supplies the matching Omada SFP optics alongside it.
Gigabit Copper With Auto MDI/MDIX
The copper side is a single 10/100/1000M RJ45 port with Auto MDI/MDIX, so a straight or crossover patch lead both work and there is nothing to configure. Half-duplex and full-duplex transfer modes are auto-negotiated. On 1000BASE-T the converter carries UTP Category 5 or 5e to a maximum of 100 m, or EIA/TIA-568 100-ohm STP to the same 100 m, matching normal structured cabling practice.
Standards-Based and Interoperable
The MC220L complies with IEEE 802.3i, 802.3u, 802.3ab and 802.3z, covering 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, 1000BASE-T and 1000BASE-X. It has no proprietary signalling, so it interoperates with any standards-compliant switch, router or NIC at either end rather than requiring a matched pair. PWR and Link/Act LEDs give immediate confirmation that the unit has power and the link is up, which is often all a technician needs when tracing a fibre fault.
Low Power, Silent, Out of the Way
Maximum power consumption is 1.7 W from an external power adapter, and there is no fan, so the unit is silent and can sit in an occupied room as easily as in a comms cupboard. At 94.5 x 73.0 x 27.0 mm it takes almost no space on a shelf or cabinet tray. TP-Link publishes an operating range of 0 to 40 degrees Celsius at 10 to 90 percent relative humidity, non-condensing, which is comfortably within an air-conditioned Singapore comms room.
Ideal For
Singapore sites bringing a Gigabit copper link onto fibre for distance, electrical isolation or a building-to-building run, and integrators who prefer one converter part that can be fitted with whichever optic the fibre plant needs. Supplied by SourceIT with local Singapore warranty, GST invoice and project pricing on request.

TP-Link ships the MC220L in more than one hardware revision. The figures above are those published on the current Omada product page; confirm the revision with SourceIT if a specific one is required. No MTBF figure is published for this model, so none is claimed here.
Compatibility & Software Support
The MC220L is a standalone media converter. TP-Link publishes no management interface, firmware or controller support for it, and it cannot be adopted into an Omada Software Controller, Hardware Controller or Cloud-Based Controller. It passes traffic transparently between the fibre and copper sides; the switches at either end own the configuration.
| Omada SDN Controller | Not supported — the converter cannot be adopted or centrally managed |
| Management Interface | None published — no web GUI, CLI or firmware configuration |
| SFP Module | Not included. Any 1000BASE-X multi-mode or single-mode SFP module, chosen to match the fibre plant |
| Interoperability | Standards-based: works with any IEEE 802.3-compliant equipment at the supported speeds |
TP-Link does not publish a per-switch or per-optic compatibility list for the MC220L. Send us the switch model and the fibre type and we will confirm the combination before quoting.

Frequently Asked Questions — MC220L
Is an SFP module included?
No. The slot ships empty so the optic can be matched to your fibre. TP-Link states that both distance and wavelength depend on the module used. SourceIT can supply the matching Omada SFP with the converter.
How far will the fibre link reach?
That is set entirely by the SFP module fitted, not by the converter. Tell us the distance and fibre type and we will recommend the right optic.
What is the difference between the MC220L and a fixed-optic converter such as the MC210CS or MC200CM?
The MC220L takes a pluggable SFP, so one unit covers multi-mode or single-mode as required. The MC210CS and MC200CM have a built-in SC fibre port at a fixed wavelength and a fixed distance, which is simpler where the fibre type is already known and will not change.
Can it be managed from an Omada Controller?
No. TP-Link publishes no controller support for this model. It is a transparent converter with no management interface.
What warranty does SourceIT provide?
Five years local Singapore warranty, under Omada's replacement warranty tier for media converters. Every MC220L sold by SourceIT comes with a GST invoice.
