PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

TP-Link Omada Gigabit Multi-Mode Media Converter (MC200CM) - 5 Years Local Warranty

The MC200CM brings a Gigabit copper link onto multi-mode fibre through a built-in 1000M SC/UPC port at 850 nm. It is the in-building counterpart to the single-mode MC210CS: shorter reach, but the right match for the multi-mode fibre already installed in most riser and inter-floor runs. One 10/100/1000M RJ45 port with Auto MDI/MDIX serves the copper side.

Reach Depends on the Multi-Mode Fibre Grade

TP-Link publishes two distances rather than one, because multi-mode fibre comes in two common core sizes. Over 50/125 um fibre the MC200CM extends the link up to 0.55 km; over 62.5/125 um it reaches 0.22 km. Both figures comfortably cover a riser, an inter-floor run or a link across a compound, and knowing which fibre is in the duct tells you immediately whether the run will make it. For anything longer, the single-mode MC210CS reaches 15 km.

A Fixed 850 nm SC Port, Nothing Further to Specify

The fibre side is a built-in 1000BASE-SX SC/UPC port fixed at 850 nm, so there is no SFP module to select, order or lose. Where the fibre type is already known and will not change, that is the simpler and cheaper purchase. If a site has mixed fibre or you would rather choose the optic, the MC220L takes a pluggable SFP instead; for 10 Gbps, the MC420L is the multi-gigabit unit.

Gigabit Copper With Auto MDI/MDIX

The copper side is a single 10/100/1000M RJ45 port with Auto MDI/MDIX, so either patch-lead type works and nothing needs configuring. Half-duplex and full-duplex transfer modes are auto-negotiated. On 1000BASE-T, TP-Link specifies UTP Category 5 or 5e to a maximum of 100 m, or EIA/TIA-568 100-ohm STP to the same 100 m. The unit complies with IEEE 802.3i, 802.3u, 802.3ab and 802.3z and uses no proprietary signalling, so it works with any standards-compliant switch or router.

Under 2 W, Fanless, Easy to Place

Maximum power consumption is 1.66 W from an external power adapter, and there is no fan, so the unit runs silently and can sit in an occupied room as readily as a comms cupboard. PWR and Link/Act LEDs give immediate status when tracing a fibre fault. At 94.5 x 73.0 x 27.0 mm it takes almost no shelf or tray space, and TP-Link publishes an operating range of 0 to 40 degrees Celsius at 10 to 90 percent relative humidity, non-condensing.

Ideal For

Singapore sites with multi-mode fibre already in the riser or between nearby blocks, extending a Gigabit link beyond the 100 m copper limit or isolating two buildings electrically. Supplied by SourceIT with local Singapore warranty, GST invoice and project pricing on request.

TP-Link lists several hardware revisions of the MC200CM (V4, V4.30 and V5.20). The figures above are those published on the Omada product page, which shows V4. Confirm the revision with SourceIT if a specific one is required. No MTBF figure is published for this model, so none is claimed here.

Compatibility & Software Support

The MC200CM is a standalone media converter. TP-Link publishes no management interface, firmware or controller support for it, and it cannot be adopted into an Omada Software Controller, Hardware Controller or Cloud-Based Controller. It passes traffic transparently between the fibre and copper sides; the switches at either end own the configuration.

Omada SDN Controller Not supported — the converter cannot be adopted or centrally managed
Management Interface None published — no web GUI, CLI or firmware configuration
Fibre Type Required Multi-mode fibre, SC/UPC connector, 850 nm (50/125 um or 62.5/125 um)
Far-End Equipment Any 1000BASE-SX multi-mode device at 850 nm — a second MC200CM, a switch SFP port with a matching optic, or a router
Interoperability Standards-based: works with any IEEE 802.3-compliant equipment at the supported speeds

TP-Link does not publish a per-switch compatibility list for the MC200CM. Send us the switch model and the fibre type at the far end and we will confirm the combination before quoting.

Frequently Asked Questions — MC200CM

How far will the fibre link actually reach?

Up to 0.55 km over 50/125 um multi-mode fibre, or up to 0.22 km over 62.5/125 um. Check which grade is installed before committing to the run. For longer distances, the single-mode MC210CS reaches 15 km.

Can it be used on single-mode fibre?

No. The MC200CM is a multi-mode unit at 850 nm. Use the MC210CS for single-mode, or the MC220L if you would rather fit your own SFP.

Do I need two units?

Only if both ends are copper. One MC200CM pairs with a switch that already has a 1000BASE-SX multi-mode optic in an SFP slot.

Can it be managed from an Omada Controller?

No. TP-Link publishes no controller support for this model. It is a transparent converter with no management interface.

What warranty does SourceIT provide?

Five years local Singapore warranty, under Omada's replacement warranty tier for media converters. Every MC200CM sold by SourceIT comes with a GST invoice.
