The RE650 is the top of TP-Link’s AC-class extender range: 1733 Mbps on 5 GHz, 800 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, four external antennas and a Gigabit Ethernet port. The four-antenna body is noticeably larger than the compact models below it, and it is built for covering distance rather than tucking discreetly into a socket.

Four External Antennas for Reach

Where the compact extenders in this range carry two antennas or none at all, the RE650 carries four external ones on a 163 x 86 x 40 mm body. More antennas mean more spatial streams and a better chance of holding a usable link back to the router across a long flat or through several walls — which is the actual limiting factor for an extender, since it can only rebroadcast what it can receive cleanly.

AC2600 Dual-Band Throughput

TP-Link rates the RE650 at up to 1733 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 800 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. The 2.4 GHz figure is unusually high for an extender and is worth noting if your problem area is served mainly by 2.4 GHz devices — older laptops, smart home gear, cameras — rather than by modern 5 GHz clients.

MU-MIMO and Extended Coverage

With MU-MIMO, TP-Link puts the RE650 at up to 4x faster than a traditional AC range extender, transferring data to several devices at once instead of serving them in turn. Gigabit Ethernet, Plus Power and LED Buttons

A single Gigabit Ethernet port wires one device through the extender at full speed. The RE650 also has physical Power and LED buttons alongside WPS and Reset, so the unit can be switched off or its indicators darkened without unplugging it — useful when the best socket for coverage happens to be in a bedroom.

Range Extender and Access Point Modes

Working modes are Range Extender and Access Point. Published wireless functions include wireless statistics, concurrent mode boosting both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, access control, LED control and a domain login function.
