48 Fast Ethernet Ports in One 1U Rack Slot

All 48 ports are 10/100Mbps RJ45 with auto-negotiation and Auto MDI/MDIX, so any cable works and any device negotiates its own speed and duplex without configuration. At 440 x 180 x 44 mm the switch occupies a single rack unit, which is the practical appeal: one slot serves a whole floor of low-bandwidth endpoints instead of two or three smaller switches with their own power bricks and patch leads. The switching capacity of 9.6 Gbps is exactly 48 ports x 100Mbps x 2 for full duplex, so the fabric is non-blocking - every port can send and receive at line rate simultaneously without the backplane becoming the limit. A packet forwarding rate of 7.14 Mpps sustains that at minimum frame size, and the 8K MAC address table is generous for a Fast Ethernet access switch, comfortably covering a dense floor of endpoints. Store-and-forward transmission validates each frame before forwarding it, so corrupted frames are dropped rather than propagated.

802.3x Flow Control and Green Technology Power Saving

IEEE 802.3x flow control lets a congested port signal the sender to pause rather than silently discarding frames, which protects throughput when a fast source feeds a slower link - a common pattern when a Gigabit uplink switch feeds this one. TP-Link's Green Technology reduces draw on ports where no link is detected, which is part of why a fully populated 48-port switch draws under 10W. Nothing needs enabling; both behaviours are always on.

Unmanaged by Design - No Configuration, No Controller

The TL-SF1048 has no web interface, no console port and no VLAN, QoS or SNMP support. That is the point: it is installed, cabled and forgotten, with no firmware to maintain and no configuration to lose.
