Read this before you buy: Windows 10 is out of support

Windows 10 reached end of support on 14 October 2025. Microsoft has stopped issuing free security updates, feature updates and technical support for it. Version 22H2 was the final version. We still list this product because there remain legitimate reasons to buy it — recovering a machine that cannot meet the Windows 11 hardware floor, matching an existing estate, or an application that is certified only against Windows 10 — but nobody should buy it without knowing that. If you are buying a general-purpose desktop operating system for new work, Windows 11 is the product you want, not this one.

If you buy it anyway, understand Extended Security Updates

Microsoft runs Extended Security Updates programmes that keep security updates flowing after end of support, and both the consumer and the organisational route require version 22H2. For consumers, Microsoft publishes three enrolment routes — at no additional cost when syncing PC settings, redemption of 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points, or a one-time purchase of 30 US dollars or local currency equivalent plus tax — each covering up to 10 devices. For organisations, Microsoft sells Extended Security Updates through Volume Licensing, priced by Microsoft at 61 US dollars per device for Year One and doubling for each consecutive year. The consumer programme and the organisational programme run on different terms, and this page does not print an end date for either: no end date for either programme is published on Microsoft's own page, so SourceIT will confirm the applicable Extended Security Updates end date and enrolment route in writing before your order. Microsoft is explicit that Extended Security Updates deliver Critical and Important security updates only — no feature improvements, no non-security fixes, and no technical support.

OEM licensing: this one is tied to the machine

This is an OEM licence, and Microsoft's terms treat OEM differently from retail. For pre-installed and OEM software, Microsoft's licence terms permit transfer of the licence directly to another user only with the licensed device — the licence moves with the hardware and cannot be moved to a different PC. Microsoft also directs OEM support to the device manufacturer or installer rather than to Microsoft. A retail licence, by contrast, may be moved to another device you own. This distinction is the single most misunderstood thing about Windows licensing, and it is the one to get right before you order: if you need a licence you can move to a different machine later, you need a retail licence rather than this one.

Moving to Windows 11 from here

Microsoft's upgrade route requires the device to be running a supported version of Windows 10 and to meet the Windows 11 minimum hardware specification, with the upgrade delivered through Windows Update. Both halves of that are now a problem for this SKU: no supported version of Windows 10 remains, and a machine old enough to want a Windows 10 OEM DVD is likely to fail the TPM 2.0, Secure Boot and processor-list requirements. Treat the upgrade path as something to verify per machine with Microsoft's PC Health Check app, not as something this purchase guarantees.
