What you can plug in

The BR1500GI presents 10 x C13 — 5 battery-backed, 5 surge-only, plus 2 jumper cords. All outlets are IEC 60320 C13, so a standard C13 kettle lead connects a PC, monitor, switch, router or NAS directly. Only the battery-backed outlets carry the load through an outage; the surge-only outlets stay dead when the mains fails, which is the point — put the printer and the monitor there and keep the battery for the machine that must not stop. The unit takes its own supply through an IEC 60320 C14 inlet on a normal 13 A Singapore wall socket — no dedicated circuit and no electrician needed.

Sizing it: VA, watts and how much you can actually load

The BR1500GI is rated 1500 VA apparent power and 865 W real power. Size against the watts, not the VA — the watt figure is the one that runs out first on modern IT loads. As a working rule, keep the connected load under about 70% of 865 W so you have headroom for inrush and for the battery ageing. Schneider publishes no runtime table for this model, so any minutes figure you see quoted elsewhere is someone's estimate, not a manufacturer specification. Battery and replacement cartridge

The battery is a sealed maintenance-free lead-acid (VRLA) cartridge, 24 V 9.0 Ah. Typical recharge time is 8 h. The APC replacement cartridge for this model is APCRBC124 — APCRBC124 is stocked by SourceIT. The cartridge is user-replaceable from the front of the unit; APC does not describe this model's battery as swappable while running, so plan a short shutdown for the change.

Rack space and management software

This is a tower unit and is not rack mountable, so it consumes no rack U and needs no rail kit. This model has no SmartSlot, so an AP9640 or AP9641 Network Management Card cannot be fitted — if you need SNMP monitoring or an Ethernet-managed UPS, step up to the APC Smart-UPS range and we will quote it. Bundled shutdown software is not documented for this model in the Schneider material we can verify, so we do not claim it; ask us and we will confirm what ships in the current carton.

Extended runtime

Uniquely in this range, the BR1500GI accepts the BR24BPG external battery pack — a 24 V, 372 VAh pack that multiplies the runtime available to the battery-backed outlets. None of the other Back-UPS Pro BR models on this site accept an external pack.

Schneider does not itemise the carton contents for this model in the documentation we can verify, so we will not invent a list. What we can tell you is that the unit ships as a complete tower UPS with its battery installed. What is the difference between the 1500 VA and the 865 W rating?

1500 VA is apparent power and 865 W is real power. Your equipment consumes real power, so the 865 W figure is the one that limits what you can connect. Add up the wattage on the nameplates of everything you intend to back up and keep the total comfortably below 865 W.

How long will the BR1500GI run my equipment?

It depends entirely on load, and Schneider publishes no runtime table for this model — which is why you will not find minutes quoted on this page. A lightly loaded unit runs for many minutes; one near 865 W runs for a few. Send SourceIT your load in watts and we will calculate it against the 216 VAh (187 VAh usable runtime rating) battery rating rather than guess.

What does the "GI" in BR1500GI mean?

It identifies the build variant. GI is the 230 V IEC-outlet Power-Saving Back-UPS Pro build, the only one in this family that accepts an external battery pack. These suffixes are not interchangeable — outlet counts, waveform and battery cartridge all change with them, so order by the exact part number.

Is the output a pure sine wave, and will it drive an active-PFC power supply?

No. The BR1500GI produces a stepped approximation to a sinewave, as stated in its data sheet. That is fine for most desktops, routers, switches, NVRs and POS gear, but some active-PFC ATX power supplies will alarm or drop out on it. If your load has an active-PFC supply, choose the BR1200SI or BR1600SI instead — both are sine wave.

Which replacement battery does it take, and can I fit it myself?

The APC replacement battery cartridge for the BR1500GI is APCRBC124, stocked here: APCRBC124. It is user-replaceable — no tools beyond a screwdriver and no service call. APC does not describe this model's battery as swappable while running, so shut the unit down for the swap. Expect three to five years of service in an air-conditioned office, and less in a hot, humid comms cupboard.

Can I rack mount it or add a network management card?

No on both counts. The BR1500GI is a tower unit with no rack ears or rail kit option, and the Back-UPS Pro BR range has no SmartSlot, so an AP9640 or AP9641 card cannot be fitted. If you need a 19-inch rack UPS or SNMP monitoring, ask SourceIT about the APC Smart-UPS SMT, SMC and SMX ranges.

How does the BR1500GI compare with the BR1600MI?

The BR1600MI offers slightly more capacity at 1600 VA / 960 W, but the BR1500GI is the only model in this range that takes an external battery pack. Both are stocked by SourceIT in Singapore — tell us the load and the budget and we will tell you which one is the right buy.

Does it come with a Singapore warranty and a GST invoice?

Yes. Every APC BR1500GI sold by SourceIT comes with local Singapore warranty and a GST invoice; APC backs the BR1500GI with a 2-year manufacturer warranty. Note that Schneider states three years inside the European Community and two years elsewhere — Singapore takes the two-year term, and any listing quoting three years for this market has copied the European figure.
