HP Poly Focus 625 vs Jabra Evolve3 75: Can Traditional Boom Mics Beat AI Voice Technology?

A traditional boom microphone still has the physical advantage in loud rooms, and the HP Poly Focus 625 uses one; the Jabra Evolve3 75 shows that AI voice processing without a boom is now good enough for most offices and homes. Price is almost a wash: S$329.23 for the Focus 625 against S$360.00 for the Evolve3 75 at SourceIT, or S$397.67 and S$399.60 with their charging stands, prices as listed on 25 Oct 2026. So the decision comes down to how noisy your users' rooms are and how they look on camera.

Why microphone placement still matters

A microphone near your mouth picks up much more of your voice relative to the room. That head start is why boom headsets have dominated call centres for decades. The Focus 625's boom sits at the mouth during calls and tucks into the earcup afterwards. Acoustic Fence 2.0 then treats sound from outside a zone around your mouth as noise. An earcup microphone array, like the Evolve3 75's, starts further away and has to separate your voice from the room with processing. Jabra's ClearVoice does this with a deep neural network; Jabra claims 96 per cent word accuracy across its test environments and 99 per cent in open offices.

The question is not whether AI works. It is how much margin you need on the noisiest day in the noisiest room.

Background noise reduction: which handles a noisy office better?

Both are designed for open-plan offices: HP lists Microsoft Teams Open Office certification for the Focus 625, and Jabra says the Evolve3 75 meets Microsoft's Open Office requirements in its Teams variant. In typical office noise, both will sound clean to the person you call. Where they differ is at the extremes. With a coffee machine, a printer and three colleagues talking nearby, the boom's distance advantage gives the Focus 625 more margin. In a quiet home office, the Evolve3 75 sounds just as natural without anything across your face. For listening, both have adaptive or hybrid ANC; Jabra notes its ANC keeps working during calls, and HP adds a Transparency mode button.

Comfort and the calling experience

The Evolve3 75 is 28 g lighter and folds into a travel case, and with no boom there is nothing to position before a call: put it on and talk. The Focus 625 needs a quick flick of the boom, but in return you can see that your microphone is in place, and its 135° rotation lets you set it precisely. Both have busylights and on-head sensors. On battery, the Focus 625 is the clear winner for calls: up to 25 hours of talk with ANC and indicator on against 18 for the Evolve3 75. On music, the Jabra wins with ANC off.

What about real call recordings?

We have not published side-by-side call recordings for these two headsets, and we would rather not imitate one with a simulated clip. The most reliable test is your own: run the same Teams call from your noisiest desk with each headset and ask the other side which sounded clearer. If you are planning a fleet order, talk to us about how to run that comparison before you commit.

Can traditional boom mics beat AI voice technology?

In loud rooms, yes; in ordinary offices, they draw level. Choose the HP Poly Focus 625 for staff who take calls in shared, noisy spaces and want the longest talk time, or the version with wireless charging stand for hot desks. Choose the Jabra Evolve3 75 for people who spend the day on camera, work mostly in quieter rooms and want a lighter, boomless headset. The full Focus 625 assessment is in HP Poly Focus 625 Review, the foldable versions are compared in Jabra Evolve3 65 Flex vs HP Poly Focus 625 Fold, and the Evolve3 75 against Yealink in Jabra Evolve3 75 vs Yealink BH74.
