Can a Business Headset Replace Your Sony or Bose Headphones?
Yes, for most professionals a premium business headset can replace a pair of Sony or Bose headphones, as long as you accept slightly less music polish in exchange for much better calls. The Jabra Evolve3 85 (S$450.00 at SourceIT) and HP Poly Focus 625 (S$329.23) do ANC, music and travel well, and add things consumer headphones don't: Microsoft Teams certification, a dedicated PC adapter, a Teams button and IT management. Sony's WH-1000XM6 lists at S$649 on Sony's Singapore store, and Bose's QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) at S$599 RRP at Singapore retailers. SourceIT prices as listed on 25 Oct 2026; check Sony's and Bose's current prices before you compare.

Meetings: where business headsets clearly win
Consumer headphones are tuned first for listening. Business headsets are tuned first for being heard. Three practical differences show up on Teams every day:
- Certification. Microsoft says certified devices work plug and play, offer call control with Teams, and are tested for wideband audio with no echo or distortion. Neither the WH-1000XM6 nor the QC Ultra 2nd Gen is on Microsoft's certified list.
- Mute that stays in sync. Microsoft notes that mute status sync from the Teams desktop client to the device works only with Teams-certified peripherals. With consumer headphones, the headset can show unmuted while Teams has you muted, or the reverse.
- A dedicated adapter. Both business headsets ship with a USB adapter, so the call does not depend on the laptop's built-in Bluetooth, which also serves your mouse, keyboard and phone. Why that matters is in Why Your Expensive Bluetooth Headset Sounds Terrible on Teams.
On microphones, the Focus 625's boom has the physical advantage in noisy rooms; the Evolve3 85's boomless array is designed to meet Microsoft's open-office requirements in its Teams variant. Sony quotes six microphones with AI beamforming for calls on the XM6, which is good for a consumer headphone, but it is not tested against Microsoft's open-office standard.
Sony and Bose make headphones you can call on. Jabra and Poly make headsets you can listen to music on. Start with what you do most.
Music: how much do you give up?
Less than you might expect. The Evolve3 85 has 32 mm speakers, Spatial Sound, LC3 and AAC codecs and up to 55 hours of music with ANC on. The Focus 625 is rated at up to 42 hours of listening with ANC on. Sony's XM6 adds LDAC for high-resolution Android playback and a richer app with EQ, and Bose's QC Ultra adds Immersive Audio and aptX Adaptive with Snapdragon Sound. If you are an audiophile who listens for hours with critical attention, the consumer flagships still have the edge. For background music while you work, both business headsets are more than good enough.
Travel: one headset for the plane and the meeting
All four have strong ANC for flights. The Evolve3 85 folds, includes a 3.5 mm cable for seat-back screens and has a user-replaceable battery. The Focus 625 Fold (S$349.00) folds and includes a USB-C to 3.5 mm cable for media listening. The business headsets also have a talk-time rating that matters for long call days: up to 25 hours for both. Travel-specific comparisons are in The Best Foldable Business Headsets in 2026.
What about IT and procurement?
For a company, the business headset is easier to justify. It can be bought on a GST invoice from an IT reseller, comes with a business warranty (2 years local on SourceIT's Jabra listings; HP describes a two-year limited warranty for Poly), and is managed with vendor tools such as Jabra Xpress and HP's Poly software for settings and firmware. Consumer headphones are usually bought on expense claims and supported by the user.
Can one headset do it all?
For most professionals, yes:
- Jabra Evolve3 85 if you want the most consumer-like experience: over-ear, boomless, foldable, long music time.
- HP Poly Focus 625 if calls in noisy places matter most and you want a boom.
- Yealink BH78 (S$318.60) if you want over-ear isolation, a hidden boom and up to 120 hours of music at the lowest price.
- Keep your Sony or Bose if music is your priority and you only join the odd call.
