DGX OS Updates for ASUS Ascent GX10: What Changed in 7.x
Posted by Wei Fei on
The ASUS Ascent GX10 runs NVIDIA DGX OS, the same Ubuntu-based operating system as the NVIDIA DGX Spark, and NVIDIA has shipped a steady stream of DGX OS 7.x updates since the platform launched in October 2025. ASUS's own support site listed DGX OS 7.5.0-2 for the GX10 on 29 July 2026, and NVIDIA's release notes now show 7.6.0, the release that opens the path to DGX OS 8. This post explains what DGX OS is, how updates reach a GX10, what each 7.x release changed according to NVIDIA's published notes, how to update without breaking a working model server, and where to get help. It is written for owners of the Ascent GX10, and most of it applies to any GB10 system in the DGX Spark class.
What DGX OS is
DGX OS 7 is NVIDIA's customised Ubuntu 24.04 with the GPU driver, CUDA Toolkit, container toolkit, NCCL, cuDNN, DCGM monitoring and the DGX Dashboard pre-integrated and tested as a set. On a GB10 system the kernel is an ARM64 NVIDIA build (6.17.0-1014-nvidia in 7.5.0) and the GPU driver is a Canonical-signed build of NVIDIA's Release 580 family, which NVIDIA's documentation states DGX Spark requires. The point of a tested set is that the driver, CUDA and the frameworks move together; that is why an update to DGX OS is not the same as running an Ubuntu update on a laptop, and why it matters for performance. Our Ascent GX10 guide covers the hardware side.
How updates arrive on a GX10
NVIDIA's DGX Spark release notes describe four delivery paths. Over-the-air (OTA) updates, added for DGX Spark in DGX OS 7.3.1 (18 November 2025) and revised as OTA version 2 in 7.4.0 (2 February 2026), are surfaced in the DGX Dashboard, which since the April 2026 release shows release highlights so you can judge how urgent an update is. Package updates through apt, using NVIDIA's repositories, for the command-line route NVIDIA documents in its DGX OS 7 user guide. USB and local repository installs, including fully air-gapped updates, added in April 2026 for IT-managed and isolated deployments. Cloud-init provisioning for custom enterprise images, extended in July 2026 with DHCP, HTTP and TFTP support. NVIDIA's notes also state that the version table on its release-notes page applies to the DGX Spark Founders Edition and that GB10 partner systems may receive updates later, which is why ASUS publishes its own GX10 package, such as the DGX OS 7.5.0-2 build it listed in July 2026.

Dates and contents are taken from NVIDIA's DGX OS 7 and DGX Spark release notes as read on 18 October 2026. ASUS validates and republishes builds for the GX10 on its own schedule, so the version your unit offers may lag NVIDIA's table by weeks.
Why these updates matter for performance
Three items in that list change what a GX10 can do rather than just patching it. The July 2026 driver's improved out-of-memory handling matters on a 128 GB unified-memory machine because a model that fits with little headroom used to fail abruptly under memory pressure; the driver now gives feedback instead. The NVIDIA Sync Cluster Assistant and NCCL 2.30u1 change clustering: NVIDIA's June 2026 notes describe connecting up to three units without a switch in a ring, or four with one, whereas ASUS's GX10 guidance remains two units direct and four via a switch, so confirm your topology with us before buying cables. And the 7.4.0-era fix for the multi-system performance regression is the reason a two-unit cluster should not sit on an early 7.4.0 build. How to update a GX10 safely
1. Read the highlights first. The DGX Dashboard shows release highlights; NVIDIA's release notes page lists the version table and known issues. Decide whether the update is urgent before you start.
2. Snapshot what works. Record the installed driver and CUDA release with apt list --installed nvidia-driver*-open and apt list --installed cuda-toolkit-*, note the model-server versions in your containers, and back up any models and data on the NVMe. Containers pin their own CUDA libraries, which is the main reason to run inference in containers on DGX OS.
3. Apply the update. Through the Dashboard OTA, or from a terminal with sudo apt update followed by sudo apt full-upgrade -y, which is the sequence NVIDIA's DGX OS 7 user guide uses. Stay on the Release 580 driver family; NVIDIA's guide says DGX Spark requires it and that Release 595 and later belong with DGX OS 8.
4. Reboot and check. NVIDIA's guide calls for a reboot after a driver install. Then run nvidia-smi, start your model server and check that throughput and memory use match the numbers you recorded.
5. Plan the DGX OS 8 step separately. 7.6.0 is the gateway release; moving to DGX OS 8 is a release upgrade, not a package update, and deserves a maintenance window and a full backup.
For a fleet, or an air-gapped unit, NVIDIA's Enterprise Management Guide and the USB and local-repository methods added in April 2026 are the right tools, and our DGX Spark setup and enterprise deployment guide covers the network and access-control side.
