20 kVA Online Double-Conversion Power at Unity Power Factor
The Vertiv™ Liebert® GXT5-20KIRT9UXLN is a 20,000 VA / 20,000 W online double-conversion UPS in a 9U rack/tower chassis. Vertiv rates the watt output equal to the VA rating (output power factor up to 1.0), so the full 20,000 W is usable for connected IT load — more real power than a traditional 0.8 or 0.9 PF UPS of the same VA size.
The inverter supplies a regenerated sine wave to the load at all times, so servers, storage and network equipment never see raw mains disturbances and there is no transfer break when utility power fails. Vertiv rates efficiency at up to 95% in online mode and up to 98% in Active ECO mode.
The Largest Rack-Mount Capacity in the GXT5 Range
At 20 kVA in 9U of rack space, the GXT5 16/20 kVA models are what Vertiv describes as the largest rack-mount capacity available in the line. They accept either 1-phase or 3-phase utility input on a terminal block and deliver 230 V single-phase output, which suits small computer rooms, edge data centres and larger comms rooms where a floor-standing UPS is not wanted.
Vertiv ships the unit with a tower stand and a 4-post rack fixed rail kit, and the gravity-sensing colour graphic display re-orients itself to match the way the UPS is installed.
Scalable Runtime and Hot-Swap Batteries
Vertiv publishes 2.5 min at full load and 7 min at half load on the internal VRLA batteries, rising to 7 min and 19.5 min with one GXT5-EBC384VRT6U external battery cabinet. Up to 10 cabinets can be added for longer runtime.
Battery modules are hot-swappable and user-replaceable, and the UPS reports battery health and predicts the replacement date so batteries are changed before they fail.
Remote Management and Parallel Redundancy
This configuration includes a factory-installed Vertiv IntelliSlot network card for web and SNMP monitoring and environmental sensor support, and works with free Vertiv Power Insight software for monitoring and orderly shutdown. An automatic internal bypass is built in, and external maintenance bypass options are available. The 20 kVA model supports parallel or redundant operation, with configurations of up to 2+1 redundancy for maximum availability.

What It Is Suited To
Server racks, storage arrays, network cores, VoIP and CCTV systems and small computer rooms. Add up the continuous watts of your equipment and keep it below 20,000 W with headroom for growth.
Electrical Installation
Both input and output are on terminal blocks, and the UPS accepts 1-phase or 3-phase utility input. Installation must be carried out by a licensed electrician on a suitably rated dedicated circuit; distribute power to the rack from the output terminals via a rack PDU. Weight is 135.2 kg, so plan rack mounting with two people or a lift.
Monitoring and Shutdown
The factory-installed IntelliSlot network card provides web and SNMP monitoring and supports Vertiv environmental sensors. Vertiv Power Insight provides monitoring and automatic, unattended shutdown. A spare RDU101 card (Vertiv part 02312384) is available here.
Runtime Extension
Add the GXT5-EBC384VRT6U external battery cabinet (Vertiv part 02312377; 6U, 430 x 630 x 261 mm, 32 x 12 V 9 Ah batteries, 112 kg). The UPS supports up to 10 cabinets.

Yes. The GXT5 is online double conversion: the load runs from the inverter at all times, so there is no transfer time to battery and the output is a regulated sine wave.
