Poly Rove R8 DECT Repeater for Extended Wireless Coverage

The Poly Rove R8 is the coverage extender for Poly’s Rove wireless DECT IP phone system. It relays the DECT signal from a Rove base station over the air, pushing reach from roughly 50 m / 164 ft out to as much as 300 m / 984 ft depending on the environment — and it does so with nothing more than a mains outlet, since no network cabling is required. Up to three R8 repeaters can be added to a base, and up to three can be cascaded to reach further still.

Fill Coverage Gaps Without Running New Cable

This is the practical appeal of a repeater. Stairwells, basement stores, loading bays, annexes and back-of-house corridors are exactly the places where a DECT signal fades and where running structured cabling is expensive or disruptive. The R8 needs only a power socket, so coverage can be added in an afternoon rather than scheduled around a cabling contractor.

Auto-Configuring and Fully Encrypted

The R8 auto-configures against single-cell and dual-cell base stations, so commissioning does not require a specialist. DECT end-to-end encryption is maintained even in repeater mode — a relayed call is exactly as secure as one carried by the base directly, which matters in healthcare, finance and any environment handling confidential conversations.

Compatible With Every Poly Rove Product

The R8 works across the whole Rove range: the Rove 20, Rove 30 and Rove 40 handsets, and the B1, B2 and B4 base stations. Each repeater relays up to two simultaneous calls. Note that a repeater extends range rather than capacity — handset and concurrent-call limits remain those of the base station.

Desk or Wall Mounted, Supplied Ready to Install

At 239 x 141 x 44 mm and 166 g the R8 is unobtrusive on a shelf or a wall. A desk stand, wall mount screws and a localised AC power adapter are supplied in the box, and the unit is ENERGY STAR® certified, UL 62368-1 listed and Zoom certified.

The Poly Rove range is a single interoperable DECT system. All Poly Rove handsets — Rove 20, Rove 30 and Rove 40 — register to any Poly Rove base station, and the Rove R8 repeater is compatible with all Poly Rove products. A note on the DECT frequency band

Poly builds the Rove range in two radio variants: a 1920–1930 MHz North American SKU and an 1880–1900 MHz EU / ANZ / UK SKU. The Rove R8 repeater stocked by SourceIT is the 1880–1900 MHz build, which is the correct DECT band for Singapore. North American 1920–1930 MHz units bought from overseas will not operate legally or reliably here — always check the band before you buy grey stock.

How much extra coverage does one R8 repeater give?

HP describes the R8 as extending reach “significantly from up to 50 m/164 ft to 300 m/984 ft, depending on the environment.” The real figure in a Singapore building depends on construction — reinforced concrete, cold rooms and steel racking all attenuate DECT. Treat the upper number as line-of-sight and plan conservatively indoors.

How many repeaters can I add to one base station?

HP lists up to 3 Poly Rove R8 repeaters per base for the B1, B2 and B4 bases. Up to 3 repeaters can also be daisy-chained in cascade mode to push coverage further from the base, at the cost of some capacity.

Does a repeater increase how many calls the system can carry?

No. A repeater extends range, not capacity. Each R8 relays up to 2 simultaneous calls, and the handset and concurrent-call limits remain those of the base station. If you need more capacity rather than more coverage, add a cell — a second B2 for dual cell, or additional B4 bases in a multi-cell system.

Does the R8 need a network cable?

No — and this is its main advantage. The R8 relays the DECT signal over the air and needs only a mains outlet, so you can put coverage into a stairwell, store room, basement or annexe without pulling structured cabling. A localised AC power adapter is supplied in the box (5 V 2 A DC), along with a desk stand and wall mount screws.

Is call security maintained through the repeater?

Yes. Poly states that DECT end-to-end encryption is maintained even in repeater mode, so a relayed call is no less secure than one carried directly by the base.

Which bases and handsets is the R8 compatible with?

All of them. HP describes the R8 as compatible with all Poly Rove products, with auto-configuration for single-cell and dual-cell base stations. It works with the Rove 20, Rove 30 and Rove 40 handsets on the B1, B2 and B4 bases.

Should I add a repeater or a second base?

Add a repeater when the gap is a coverage hole — a far corner, a stairwell, a back store — and call volume in that area is low. Add a base or a cell when the area has real call traffic or many handsets, because only a cell adds capacity.
