What Visio LTSC Professional 2024 is
Visio LTSC Professional 2024 is the perpetual, volume-licensed desktop edition of Visio for Windows. Microsoft describes the one-time-purchase Visio editions as "available as a one-time purchase through a volume licensing agreement". You buy it once and own that version: no renewal, no recurring fee, and no feature updates after release.
What Microsoft publishes for this edition
Over and above Visio LTSC Standard 2024, Microsoft publishes for the Professional edition: cloud and architecture diagrams including Azure and AWS, software and database diagrams including ERD and UML, engineering and electrical schematics, data connectivity to link diagrams to live data, data graphics with refresh, and hundreds of additional templates and shapes. A caveat Microsoft publishes and buyers often miss: "Data linking is only available through the Visio desktop app, but you can still view data-linked diagrams in Visio for the web." Building the link needs the desktop application; viewing the result does not.
Standard or Professional — how to choose
If your diagrams are flowcharts, org charts and floor plans, Visio LTSC Standard 2024 covers them and costs materially less. The Professional edition earns its price when you need UML, ERD, engineering schematics, or diagrams linked to live data.
The date that decides this purchase
Microsoft's lifecycle entry for Visio LTSC 2024 is on the Fixed Lifecycle Policy, released 18 September 2024, with mainstream support ending 9 October 2029, and Microsoft states there will be no Extended Support. Compare that with the 2021 generation we also still list: Visio 2021 reaches end of support on 13 October 2026. A cheaper 2021 licence is not a saving.
Perpetual or subscription — the honest comparison
The perpetual editions give you the Visio desktop application, owned outright, with no web app. The subscriptions are different products: Microsoft publishes Visio Plan 1 as the Visio web app only, with no desktop application, and Visio Plan 2 as the web and Teams apps plus the Visio desktop app, and states that both plans come with 2 GB of storage on OneDrive for work or school. Microsoft's own steer for customers who want continuing feature updates on the desktop is to move to a subscription plan. If you want to own a fixed version and stop paying, buy this. If you want the web app, the storage and the newest features, buy Plan 2. We list all of them.

Can I link diagrams to live data?
Yes, on this edition, with Microsoft's published caveat that data linking is only available through the Visio desktop app although data-linked diagrams can be viewed in Visio for the web.
Is there a Mac version?
No. Microsoft publishes Visio as available for PCs only. There is no Mac edition, perpetual or subscription.
Do I get the Visio web app with this?

Microsoft publishes Visio 2021 as reaching end of support on 13 October 2026; its lifecycle database renders that same date as 14 October 2026 in some locales, but it is one date shown two ways. The 2024 edition runs to October 2029 — three more years of security updates for the difference in price.
Is this a subscription? Will it expire?
No, it is a one-time purchase. There is no annual renewal and the software does not stop working on a renewal date, because there is no renewal date. Does it come with a warranty?
This is a software licence, not hardware. It carries no hardware warranty, no return-to-base service and no replacement entitlement, because there is no hardware to replace. What it carries is the licence itself, Microsoft's support for the product while it remains in support, and our own local support in Singapore.
Should I buy this or a Microsoft 365 subscription instead?
They are genuinely different products and the honest answer depends on what you need. A one-time purchase gets you the desktop applications on the device, frozen at the 2024 feature set, with no ongoing cost. Microsoft 365 gets you continuously updated applications plus the cloud services — mailbox, cloud storage, Teams — for a recurring fee. Microsoft's own comparison states that the one-time purchase "does not include any of the services that come with a Microsoft 365 subscription" and that "Security updates are included, but you won't get any new features. Upgrades to major releases aren't included." If nobody in your organisation will notice a frozen feature set and you want to stop paying, buy this. If you need the mailbox, the storage and the collaboration, buy the subscription. Ask us and we will price both honestly.
