Why this page carries two specification tables

Lenovo's PSREF specification book is published per machine type, not per part number. It lists the panel, camera, wireless card, memory speed, operating-system edition and warranty term as options that the machine type can be built with — it never says which of them this particular part number actually shipped with. The distributor build sheet does state those per-SKU fields. So this page keeps the two apart: the build-sheet table describes the unit we sell, and the PSREF table describes the chassis and platform it is built on. Anything neither source states is marked "not stated" rather than estimated.

Warranty on this configuration

Lenovo's published base warranty options for this machine type are: 1-year limited onsite service, 2-year limited onsite service, 3-year limited onsite service. The distributor build sheet for this part number documents 3 Year Premier Support, which is a configured Lenovo service level rather than the bare base term — that is the cover quoted in the heading above. Lenovo's PSREF book for this machine type does not list Premier Support among its base warranty terms, so treat it as the configured service level recorded by the distributor and ask us to confirm it on the quotation.

Two things the old page said that we have not repeated

The previous copy described the operating system as "Optional (Windows/Linux)" while the build sheet states Windows 11 Pro for Workstations is preloaded — a material difference, because one reading implies no licence is included. The build sheet is the per-SKU source and it says the licence is there. The old copy also claimed the machine is "certified for key ISV applications" without naming one; Lenovo publishes no ISV list in the specification book, so that claim has been removed rather than repeated. The old copy also called a six-core processor "high core count", which we have not carried forward.

The graphics card in this build

Lenovo publishes the NVIDIA RTX A1000 as 8 GB GDDR6, 50 W, single slot. It is an Ampere-generation entry professional card. Note that Lenovo lists "RTX A1000" and the Ada-generation cards as separate products — there is no Ada equivalent of the A1000 in this book, so the name is unambiguous even though others in the range are not.

Networking

A single Intel I219-LM gigabit port onboard, with Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211 and vPro support as the wireless option. Ten-gigabit networking on the P5 is an add-in card and consumes a slot; the P8 has 10 GbE onboard as standard.

Does it come with Windows?

The distributor build sheet states Windows 11 Pro for Workstations, English, preloaded. An earlier version of this page described the operating system as optional, which contradicted the build sheet. The build sheet is the per-SKU source.

Can I fit an AMD Radeon PRO card?

Not according to Lenovo. No AMD Radeon PRO graphics of any kind appear in the P5 specification book. If you need a W6400, a W7600 or a W7900, that is a ThinkStation P8 and we can quote one.

How many graphics cards will the P5 take?

Lenovo publishes support for up to two RTX 5000 Ada Generation or two RTX A6000. The RTX 6000 Ada is not offered on this platform at all — the P8 is the machine for that.

Is the memory really running at 4800?

Lenovo publishes DDR5-4800 RDIMM ECC and adds its own caveat that some configurations run at 4400 MT/s depending on the processor's memory support. We cannot tell you which applies to a six-core w3-2423 without asking, and we are happy to ask.

How many graphics cards will it take?

Lenovo publishes the ceiling per card rather than as a single number, because the limit is power and slot width. Those published limits are reproduced in full in the chassis table above. Lenovo does not publish a rule for which power supply a given configuration needs, so please let us size the machine with you rather than assuming.

Is a rail kit included for rack mounting?

No. Lenovo publishes the P8 as 4U rack-mountable with an optional rail kit, which is a separate line item. The P5 has no published rack-mount option at all.

What cooling does it use?

Lenovo publishes nothing. The PSREF specification book for these machine types contains no cooling or thermal section, so we cannot tell you whether a given processor ships with air or liquid cooling, and we will not guess on a machine at this price. Ask us and we will put the question to the distributor in writing.

Which applications is it certified for?

Lenovo does not publish a list in the specification book — it points to its ISV certification portal instead. We have therefore not named any application as certified. Tell us which software you run and we will check the current entry for you.
