PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Cisco 50CM Type 4 Stacking Cable (STACK-T4-50CM=) — Local Warranty
StackWise Cable for Catalyst 9200 and 9200L
The Cisco STACK-T4-50CM= is a 50 cm Type 4 data stacking cable for the Cisco Catalyst 9200 Series. It connects the stack adapters of Catalyst 9200 switches (StackWise-160) or Catalyst 9200L switches (StackWise-80), so that up to eight switches operate as a single logical switch with one management plane.
Short Length for Adjacent Switches
At 50 cm, this is the shortest of Cisco's three STACK-T4 lengths and is intended for switches mounted directly above or below each other. Cisco lists STACK-T4-50CM as the default cable option for the Catalyst 9200 stack kits, with STACK-T4-1M and STACK-T4-3M available for longer runs or for closing the ring between the top and bottom switches.
Works with the Cisco Stack Kits
Catalyst 9200 and 9200L switches need stack adapters fitted to their rear stack ports before cables can be connected. These come in the optional C9200-STACK-KIT (for C9200) and C9200L-STACK-KIT (for C9200L), each containing two data stack adapters and one data stack cable. This spare cable adds or replaces cables in an existing stack.
Ring Topology Up to Eight Members
Catalyst 9200 StackWise connects switches in a ring of up to eight members. All stack ports are identical, and either end of the cable can connect to either stack port. A full ring delivers 160 Gbps on StackWise-160 (C9200) or 80 Gbps on StackWise-80 (C9200L), with spatial reuse.
Not for Catalyst 9300 or 2960-X
STACK-T4 cables are specific to the Catalyst 9200 family. Catalyst 9300 and 9300X switches use STACK-T1 cables, and Catalyst 9300L uses STACK-T3 cables. Cisco also notes that Catalyst 9200 stacking cables are not backward compatible with the earlier Catalyst 2960-X Series.

Compatibility & Software Support
Compatible Switches
Cisco's Catalyst 9200 data sheet and StackWise architecture white paper list STACK-T4-50CM, STACK-T4-1M and STACK-T4-3M as the stacking cables for both the C9200 (StackWise-160) and C9200L (StackWise-80) models. Each switch needs stack adapters from the appropriate stack kit.
Stacking Rules
Cisco does not support mixing C9200 and C9200L models in the same stack, because the two use different stacking bandwidths. Within each line, PoE, data and Multigigabit variants can be mixed. Cisco recommends connecting stack cables to a new member before powering it on; connecting a powered switch causes it to reload and merge into the stack.
Not Compatible With
Catalyst 9300 / 9300X (STACK-T1 cables), Catalyst 9300L (STACK-T3 cables) and Catalyst 2960-X (earlier stacking design).
Lifecycle Status
As of October 2026, no End-of-Sale notice for STACK-T4 cables appears on Cisco's Catalyst 9200 Series End-of-Life notice listing.

Frequently Asked Questions — Cisco STACK-T4-50CM
Which switches use STACK-T4 cables?
Cisco Catalyst 9200 (StackWise-160) and Catalyst 9200L (StackWise-80) switches, fitted with the matching C9200-STACK-KIT or C9200L-STACK-KIT adapters.
Will this cable work on a Catalyst 9300?
No. Catalyst 9300 and 9300X use STACK-T1 cables, and Catalyst 9300L uses STACK-T3 cables.
Can I stack a C9200 with a C9200L using this cable?
No. Cisco does not support mixed stacks of C9200 and C9200L models.
Are stack adapters included?
No. This spare is the cable only. The adapters come in the C9200-STACK-KIT or C9200L-STACK-KIT, each of which also includes one stack cable.
Which length should I choose to close the ring?
Use 50 cm cables between adjacent switches; the cable that returns from the bottom switch to the top switch usually needs the 1 m or 3 m length, depending on stack height.
