The entry point into the ROG NUC 16 range, and the one that makes the most sense as a business machine rather than a gaming halo product. Same 3-litre chassis, same three-fan vapour-chamber cooling, same five-display output and same 3-year onsite warranty as the flagship - with a 20-core Intel Core Ultra 7 270HX Plus and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Laptop GPU with 8GB of GDDR7.
At roughly S$2,280 less than the RTX 5080 configuration, this is the variant to look at for CAD seats, engineering workstations, video review stations, digital signage controllers and multi-monitor trading or control-room desks - places where you need real GPU capability and five 4K outputs, but not a 16GB frame buffer.
What you give up, stated plainly
Three things change against the higher configurations, and only three. The processor drops from 24 cores to 20 cores (8 Performance + 12 Efficient), 20 threads, with 30MB of Smart Cache instead of 36MB and a 5.3 GHz maximum turbo instead of 5.5 GHz. The GPU drops to the RTX 5060 Laptop GPU, 8GB GDDR7 and 572 AI TOPS. And the memory ships as 2 × 8GB DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM rather than the 2 × 16GB DDR5-6400 CSO-DIMM fitted to the 32GB models. Everything else - chassis, cooling, I/O, display support, wireless, warranty - is unchanged.
A note on the memory, because it is two changes, not one
This configuration is 16GB rather than 32GB, and it is also a different type and speed of module: DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM here against DDR5-6400 CSO-DIMM on the 32GB models. The good news is that it is 2 × 8GB, so it runs in dual channel - you are not losing memory bandwidth to a single-stick configuration, which is the usual trap at this tier. Both DIMM slots are occupied, so a later upgrade means replacing modules rather than adding to them. If you expect to want 32GB or more, it is cheaper to specify it at order than to buy twice - ask SourceIT to quote the upgrade.
The 280W adapter is a genuine advantage
This is the only ROG NUC 16 configuration that ships with a 280W adapter instead of the 380W brick used by the RTX 5080 and 5070 Ti models. If you are deploying several of these behind desks, into an AV cabinet, or onto a UPS-backed circuit, that is 100W per unit less to plan for and a physically smaller power supply to find room for. Across a ten-seat rollout it is a meaningful difference in both cabling and UPS sizing.
Core Ultra 7 270HX Plus, and the NPU question
Twenty cores, twenty threads, 5.3 GHz maximum turbo, 30MB Intel Smart Cache, TSMC N3B. As with the rest of the range, core count equals thread count - the P-cores do not run Hyper-Threading this generation.
Intel rates the integrated AI Boost NPU at 13 peak TOPS (INT8), with 33 peak TOPS across the whole platform including the integrated graphics. Both figures are below the 40 TOPS Microsoft requires for Copilot+ PC features, so this is not a Copilot+ PC. The AI capability worth counting is the RTX 5060's 572 AI TOPS.
Same cooling, more headroom
Three 102 × 102 × 17 mm fans, a vapour chamber covering 72% of the thermal area, and a dedicated SSD heatsink - the identical thermal solution ASUS fits to the RTX 5080 model, working against a substantially lower total heat load. In practice this is the quietest configuration in the range under sustained work. Chassis validated to MIL-STD-810H, with a G-sensor that detects vertical or horizontal placement and retunes the fan curve.
Five displays, and room to grow
Two HDMI 2.1 FRL, two DisplayPort 2.1 and one Thunderbolt 4 Type-C with DisplayPort 2.1 drive up to five 4K displays - the same output capability as the flagship, which is what makes this configuration interesting for control rooms and trading desks. The second M.2 2280 slot ships empty and opens without tools, so storage can be expanded at any time.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is 16GB enough, and can I add more later?
For office work, CAD, signage and multi-display work, yes. The unit ships as 2 × 8 GB in dual channel, which means both slots are full - so adding memory later means replacing the modules, not topping them up. If you expect to need 32 GB, it is cheaper to specify it at order. Ask SourceIT to quote the upgrade before you buy.
Why is the memory slower than on the 32GB models?
ASUS pairs this configuration with DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM rather than the DDR5-6400 CSO-DIMM used in the 32 GB builds. In practice the difference is small for office and CAD work; it is more visible in gaming and anything that leans on the integrated graphics.
Is 8GB of graphics memory a limitation?
For 1080p and 1440p gaming, CAD, video review and multi-monitor work, no. For 4K gaming with ray tracing and high texture settings, or local AI models above roughly 8 GB, yes - and graphics memory cannot be upgraded. If that is your workload, the RTX 5070 Ti or 5080 configurations are the right choice.
Is this a Copilot+ PC?
No. The NPU is 13 peak TOPS and the whole platform totals 33, against Microsoft's 40 TOPS requirement.
Why does this model get a smaller power adapter?
Lower total system draw. ASUS pairs the 280 W adapter with the RTX 5060 configurations and the 380 W adapter with the RTX 5080 and 5070 Ti. For volume deployments this is a real planning advantage.
Does it drive as many monitors as the expensive models?
Yes - up to five 4K displays, identical port complement. The display capability does not scale down with the GPU tier.
Does it have 20 or 28 threads?
20. Eight P-cores and twelve E-cores, with no Hyper-Threading on the P-cores.
