Dual-Source Redundancy for Single-Corded Equipment

The Vertiv™ Liebert® LTS™ is a two-pole automatic load transfer switch for 220/230 V single-phase racks. It takes two independent AC feeds — typically an A-feed and a B-feed from two UPS systems, or UPS and mains — and supplies its outlets from the main source, switching automatically to the standby source if the main one fails.

As Vertiv points out, usually only high-end servers have dual power supplies. Switches, routers, hubs, entry-level servers and specialised instruments are single-corded, and the LTS lets you put that equipment on two redundant power paths without replacing it.

“First Disconnect, Then Connect” Transfer

The LTS uses a break-before-make control method. If one source fails, the load is moved to the redundant source in under 6 ms typical (11 ms maximum). If a short circuit occurs on the load side, the design stops the fault from being carried across to the standby source, so the second feed stays healthy for the rest of your rack.

Full DSP control handles detection and transfer, and advanced power-off detection lets the unit judge a source failure quickly.

This Model: 32 A, Hard-wired Input, 4 x C13 + 4 x C19

The Liebert LTS 32A (Vertiv part 02353758) is rated 32 A, accepts its two feeds on hard-wired terminals and distributes power on 4 x IEC C13 (10 A each) + 4 x IEC C19 (16 A each). It is a 2U (84 mm) 19-inch rack unit (84 x 430 x 340 mm H x W x D, 5 kg), so it fits in the same rack as the equipment it protects. Remote monitoring is available through an optional SNMP card.

Where It Fits

Vertiv lists computer equipment rooms, internet data centres, telecom and financial data centres, and industrial process control centres as typical applications. In a Singapore server room it is a simple way to give network switches, firewalls and single-PSU servers the same A/B redundancy as your dual-corded kit.
