Three fans work against a dual vapor chamber to keep the Core Ultra 9 275HX and RTX 5080 combination running within thermal limits inside a 3-litre chassis. The ROG NUC (2025) range has passed MIL-STD 810H durability testing, which covers shock, vibration, altitude and temperature extremes — it is a build-quality and reliability standard, not a noise rating, and ASUS does not publish a dBA figure for this range that we can verify. Expect the fans to be clearly audible under sustained gaming load in a quiet room; a headset is the practical answer during demanding sessions.

Vertical Placement, with Side-Mounting Possible

The chassis is designed to stand vertically on the removable stand supplied in the box. ASUS's own documentation notes it can technically be laid on its side once the stand is removed, but only if the exhaust vents are left clear to vent properly — this is not the flexible either-orientation design of the newer ROG NUC 16 range, so plan the installation around vertical placement as the default.

Storage and Memory Upgrade Path

The 2 TB SSD in this configuration occupies one of two M.2 2280 slots, so the second, empty slot is still available for a further NVMe drive up to 4 TB — effectively up to 6 TB total across both slots. Memory is 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6400 across both CSO-DIMM slots as shipped. ASUS's specification page states a maximum of 96 GB using 48 GB DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM modules — a different memory speed from the DDR5-6400 kit fitted at the factory — so treat that maximum as ASUS's published ceiling rather than a guaranteed same-speed upgrade path, and confirm compatibility with SourceIT before buying replacement modules.

Networking and Display Outputs

Wired networking is 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet over RJ45, with Intel Wi-Fi 7 (BE200) and Bluetooth 5.4 for wireless. Display output is identical across every configuration of this chassis: two HDMI 2.1 FRL, two DisplayPort 2.1 and one Thunderbolt 4 Type-C carrying DisplayPort 2.1, supporting up to four displays at once.

What is the difference between this and the RNUC15JNK9X289A0?

Is the RTX 5080 in this the same as a desktop RTX 5080 card?

No — it is the RTX 5080 Laptop GPU, a 16 GB GDDR7 mobile-class part with 7,680 CUDA cores on NVIDIA's Blackwell architecture and a configurable TGP up to 175 W. It is the fastest GPU configuration available in this chassis, but expect performance closer to a high-end gaming laptop than a full desktop RTX 5080 card in a much larger tower.

Is this a complete system or a barebone unit?

Complete system. It ships with the Core Ultra 9 275HX processor, RTX 5080 Laptop GPU, 32 GB DDR5-6400 memory and a 2 TB NVMe SSD already fitted, with Windows 11 Home pre-installed.

Can I still add more storage even though it already has 2 TB?

Yes. A second M.2 2280 slot remains empty and tool-less, rated for a further PCIe 4.0 or PCIe 5.0 drive up to 4 TB — up to 6 TB total across both slots.
