The Base Tier Everything Else Builds On
Microsoft's licensing page frames the Intune family as a stack with Plan 1 at the bottom: Plan 2 is described as "additive to Plan 1" and the Intune Suite as "additive to Plan 1" as well. Plan 1 is the cloud endpoint management service itself — enrolment, configuration, compliance, app deployment and conditional access enforcement across Windows, macOS, iOS, iPadOS, Android and Linux.
Licensed Per User, and Per Device Where There Is No User
Microsoft's rule is deliberately wide: "An Intune license is required for any user or device that benefits directly or indirectly from the Microsoft Intune service." For hardware with no owner there is a separate shape — "Intune offers a device-only subscription for managing devices that aren't affiliated with specific users, such as kiosks, dedicated devices, phone-room devices, IoT, and other single-use devices." If your estate is heavy on shared or single-purpose devices, that route is usually the cheaper one, so tell us the split.
Check Your Bundle First
Microsoft says outright that "Most organizations get Intune as part of a Microsoft 365 bundle (such as Microsoft 365 E3, E5, or E7) rather than buying these plans directly." For education it is precise: "Intune Plan 1 for Education is included in the following licenses: Microsoft 365 Education A5, Microsoft 365 Education A3." What Microsoft's current page does not state is whether Microsoft 365 F1, F3 or Business Premium include Plan 1, so this page makes no claim either way — ask us and we will get it confirmed.
What Microsoft No Longer Publishes
Being straight about this is more useful than pretending otherwise. Microsoft has withdrawn the Learn page that carried the Plan 1, Plan 2 and Suite feature matrix, and the surviving pages give only a sentence per tier. Any detailed tier comparison you find elsewhere is somebody's reconstruction, not a Microsoft document. Where the boundary between tiers matters to your decision, ask us and we will put the position we can substantiate in writing with your quotation.

What Microsoft Does Not Publish for This Product
The following are commonly asked about but are not stated on any current official Microsoft source for this product, so SourceIT does not quote them: a minimum seat count, which base subscriptions qualify a tenant to buy Plan 2 or the Suite, whether Microsoft 365 F1, F3 or Business Premium include Intune Plan 1, a current tier comparison mapping each advanced capability to Plan 2 or the Suite and a lifecycle policy listing for the Intune subscription SKUs. We would rather leave a field blank than print a figure we cannot substantiate.
Lifecycle, End of Support and Entitlement
SourceIT sells this as a twelve-month subscription with a GST invoice in Singapore. The subscription is a right to use the service for the term, not a perpetual licence: when the term ends the entitlement ends unless it is renewed.
One lifecycle point is published and it matters commercially. Microsoft's 2026 packaging and pricing FAQ set out a schedule for adding advanced Intune capabilities to eligible Enterprise Mobility + Security E3, Microsoft 365 E3 and Microsoft 365 E5 tenants: "New Intune features for eligible EMS E3, Microsoft 365 E3, and Microsoft 365 E5 tenants will begin to roll out CY26 Q3", with a named feature set scheduled "complete by August 1, 2026". The same FAQ confirms the standalone products remain on sale: "Yes. Standalone Intune Suite and add-ons will continue to be available for purchase and are appropriate for customers who do not require EMS E3, Microsoft 365 E3, or Microsoft 365 E5 plans." If you already hold E3, E5 or EMS E3, check what your tenant already holds before buying an add-on on top of it. We would rather check that with you than sell you something twice. Separately, Microsoft publishes no lifecycle listing for these subscription SKUs, so this page does not claim one.
Talk to our team before the renewal date rather than after it. Seat counts, mid-term changes and co-terming with the rest of your Microsoft estate are all easier to arrange in advance, and we can quote the alternatives if a bundle would work out better for you.
Support and Entitlement Position
This is a software subscription, not hardware. It carries no hardware warranty, and any warranty term you see on a hardware listing does not apply here. What you are buying is a twelve-month right to use the service, together with SourceIT's local support in Singapore. Microsoft's own condition is that technical and billing support for a subscription bought through a partner runs through that partner, so for this subscription that means us: raise the ticket with SourceIT and we escalate to Microsoft where it needs to go. Renewal, seat changes and co-terming are handled on your SourceIT account. Ask our team for the current entitlement position in writing with your quotation.
Compatibility, Deployment and System Requirements
Check what you already own before you buy this. Several Microsoft 365 and Enterprise Mobility + Security bundles already include this service, and a tenant that buys it separately can end up paying twice for the same entitlement. Send us your current subscription list and we will check your existing entitlements before we quote.
Microsoft's stated position on who needs a licence is broad and worth reading literally: "An Intune license is required for any user or device that benefits directly or indirectly from the Microsoft Intune service." The words "or indirectly" are doing real work there — shared and service-account scenarios usually need counting too.
There is a device-only route for hardware that has no owner. Microsoft: "Intune offers a device-only subscription for managing devices that aren't affiliated with specific users, such as kiosks, dedicated devices, phone-room devices, IoT, and other single-use devices." If a meaningful share of your estate is kiosks or shared tablets, tell us — the device-only shape can change the cost materially.
Two things Microsoft does not publish, which this page will not guess at: which specific base subscriptions qualify a tenant to buy Plan 2 or the Suite beyond the statement that both are "additive to Plan 1", and whether Microsoft 365 F1, F3 or Business Premium include Intune Plan 1. Advanced endpoint management capabilities, including Remote Help and Advanced Analytics", and the Suite is "additive to Plan 1. Unifies advanced endpoint management and security capabilities. Is a minimum quantity required?
Microsoft publishes no minimum seat count for Intune. Practical minimums come from the purchasing programme rather than the product, so ask our team what applies on the route we would quote you.
