Compact controller for small and mid-size sites
The Cisco Catalyst 9800-L is a half-width, 1RU wireless LAN controller running Cisco IOS XE. The C9800-L-C-K9 is the copper-uplink version, with two 10G/Multigigabit copper uplink ports.
Up to 250 APs, scalable to 500
Out of the box it supports up to 250 access points and 5,000 clients. With the performance licence (LIC-C9800L-PERF) it scales to 500 access points, 10,000 clients and up to 10 Gbps throughput with 1374-byte packets.
High availability
The controller supports Stateful Switchover (SSO) with active-standby pairing and N+1 redundancy, using a dedicated RJ-45 redundancy port.
Flexible deployment modes
It supports centralised, Cisco FlexConnect and fabric deployments, and manages Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) access points.
Multigigabit downlinks
Alongside the uplinks, four 2.5G/1G multigigabit Ethernet ports, a service port, console ports and a USB 3.0 port are provided.

Compatibility & Software Support
Licensing
Cisco states that software subscriptions are required for access points connecting to Catalyst 9800 controllers, with Essentials or Advantage tiers on 3-, 5- or 7-year terms and perpetual Network Essentials/Advantage licensing included. AP licences are ordered separately.
Performance licence
LIC-C9800L-PERF raises scale from 250 to 500 access points and from 5,000 to 10,000 clients. A DTLS licence (LIC-C9800-DTLS-K9) is also available.
Software & management
The controller runs Cisco IOS XE 16.12.1 or later and can be managed through its web UI, CLI or Cisco Catalyst Center.
Warranty
Sold by SourceIT as a Singapore unit. Cisco states a 1-year limited hardware warranty in its data sheet. Keep your SourceIT invoice as proof of purchase for warranty claims.
