5K Retina-Class Density for Mac Creators
The MA270S is the flagship of BenQ's Mac-ready MA family: a 27-inch panel running 5120 x 2880 at 218 pixels per inch, the density Mac users mean when they say Retina. Text renders at native macOS scaling without softening, and a 4K timeline or a full-size RAW file sits on screen with room for tool palettes. Colour covers 99% sRGB and 99% Display P3 across 1.07 billion colours, with M-book and Display P3 modes so the external screen agrees with the MacBook's own panel instead of drifting.
Thunderbolt 4 Docking with 96W Power Delivery and Daisy-Chain Out
A single Thunderbolt 4 cable carries 5K video, 40 Gbps data and 96W of charging to a MacBook Pro, Mac Studio or Mac mini setup. A second Thunderbolt 4 port runs downstream for daisy-chaining a second display or a fast external SSD, and a separate USB-C port supplies 35W for an iPad or phone. Two HDMI 2.1 inputs remain free for a console or a second machine. For a Singapore studio desk that has to swap between a personal Mac and a client's laptop, that is one cable each way.
Nano Gloss Panel, 2000:1 Contrast and DisplayHDR 400

150 mm Stand Travel, Auto Pivot and Display Pilot 2
The stand travels 150 mm in height, tilts -5 to 20 degrees, swivels 15 degrees each way and pivots 90 degrees, with Auto Pivot rotating the image as the panel turns — useful for long documents, code and portrait retouching. VESA 100 x 100 mm mounting is available for arms. Compatibility & Installation
Mac connection
A Thunderbolt 4 cable is supplied for a MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac mini or Mac Studio: one lead carries 5K video, 40 Gbps data and 96W of charging. Driving 5120 x 2880 at full refresh is a Thunderbolt or DisplayPort task, so use the Thunderbolt input rather than HDMI where 5K matters.
Daisy-chaining and peripherals
The downstream Thunderbolt 4 port carries a second display or a Thunderbolt SSD from the same host connection, and supplies 15W. A separate USB-C port provides 35W for charging an iPad or phone at the desk.
Other sources
Two HDMI 2.1 inputs are provided for a console, a Windows laptop or a second machine sharing the desk.
Mounting and orientation
The stand gives 150 mm of height travel, -5° to 20° tilt, 15° swivel each way and a 90° pivot with Auto Pivot. The rear carries a VESA 100 x 100 mm pattern for arms and brackets.

Frequently Asked Questions — BenQ MA270S
What do the suffixes mean — S, UG, UP and U?
S, as here, is the 5K Thunderbolt 4 model. UG (MA320UG) is 4K Nano Gloss with Thunderbolt 4 docking and a 120 Hz panel. UP (MA270UP, MA320UP) is 4K Nano Gloss with 90W USB-C docking at 60 Hz. Plain U (MA270U, MA320U) is the base model: 4K Nano Matte with 90W USB-C.
Do I need 5K, or is 4K enough?
At 27 inches, 5K gives 218 PPI against 163 PPI for 4K. If you run macOS at its default "looks like 2560 x 1440" scaling, 5K maps two device pixels to one point exactly, which is why text looks like a MacBook's own screen. Choose 4K if budget matters more than text rendering, and 5K if you read and edit on screen all day.
Will it charge my MacBook Pro over one cable?
Yes — the Thunderbolt 4 upstream port supplies 96W of Power Delivery along with 5K video and 40 Gbps data, so a 14-inch or 16-inch MacBook Pro runs and charges from the single supplied cable.
Can I daisy-chain a second monitor?
Yes. The second Thunderbolt 4 port is a downstream output for a further display or a Thunderbolt storage device, and provides 15W of charging power on that port.
Why Nano Gloss instead of a matte panel?
Nano Gloss holds the contrast and colour saturation of a glossy screen — the look Mac users are used to — while cutting the mirror reflections plain glass gives. In a room with bright overhead lighting or a window behind the desk, a Nano Matte model such as the MA270U is the easier screen to live with.
Can I run it in portrait or on an arm?
Yes. The stand pivots 90° with Auto Pivot rotating the image, and the rear uses the VESA 100 x 100 mm pattern for arms and wall brackets.
How does it compare with the 32-inch MA320UG?
The MA320UG trades resolution for size and speed: 4K on a 31.5-inch panel at 120 Hz, also with Thunderbolt 4. The MA270S keeps 27 inches but doubles the pixel count to 5K at 70 Hz. Pick on whether density or screen area and refresh rate matters more to your work.
