The ASUS ROG NUC 16 x Phantom Blade Zero edition RNUC16JNK9X28AA3 is a collaboration model between ROG and the action game Phantom Blade Zero. It takes the RTX 5080 configuration of the ROG NUC 16 gaming mini PC - Intel Core Ultra 9 Processor 290HX Plus, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 Laptop GPU with 16 GB GDDR7 and 32 GB of DDR5-6400 - and pairs it with a 2 TB SSD and an edition-specific exterior.
Edition Design
ASUS describes the edition as an Obsidian Black body with crimson accents. Blade motifs are engraved along the frame, and the design adds a red-to-dark gradient plate, a faint reflection of the game's protagonist across the surface and crimson red-thread details. A semi-transparent front panel reveals a shadowy outline of the character "Soul". The wider ROG x Phantom Blade Zero collection also includes a monitor, keyboard, keycaps, mouse and headset; those are separate products and are not included with this NUC.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 Laptop GPU - 16 GB GDDR7
The RTX 5080 Laptop GPU with 16 GB of GDDR7 is the graphics option ASUS fits to this edition. It supports NVIDIA DLSS in supported games, and the same hardware accelerates local AI inference and creative applications. The 16 GB frame buffer gives room for high-resolution textures and larger AI models.
Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus, 32 GB DDR5-6400 and a 2 TB SSD
The Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus runs at a configurable TDP of 45 W to 160 W in this chassis. It is paired with 32 GB of DDR5-6400 across two 16 GB CSO-DIMM modules and a 2 TB M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD - double the storage of the standard RTX 5080 configuration - with Windows 11 Home pre-installed.
Cooling and Placement
ASUS uses a triple-fan design with a unified vapor chamber covering both the CPU and the GPU, which it rates at a 12% increase in CPU thermal capacity over the previous generation, and states noise stays below 38 dBA in demanding games. The removable stand lets the system stand upright or lie flat, and a built-in G-sensor detects the orientation so the cooling adjusts to suit. A rear thumbscrew gives tool-less access for memory and SSD upgrades.
Up to Five 4K Displays
Rear outputs comprise two HDMI 2.1 FRL ports, two DisplayPort 2.1 ports and a Thunderbolt 4 Type-C port with DisplayPort 2.1, which ASUS rates for up to five 4K displays on the ROG NUC 16. Connectivity & Setup / Expansion
Setting Up
Connect a monitor to any of the HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 2.1 or Thunderbolt 4 outputs, plug in a keyboard and mouse, and connect the 380 W external adapter to the rear DC input. Windows 11 Home is pre-installed, so the system is ready for first sign-in. Armoury Crate handles hardware monitoring, cooling profiles and driver updates, and the NVIDIA App keeps graphics drivers current.
Vertical or Horizontal Placement
The removable stand supports upright placement beside a display or flat placement under a monitor. The G-sensor detects which way the system is sitting and adjusts the cooling accordingly, so either orientation is supported.
Memory and Storage Upgrades
Memory and the SSD are reached without tools through the rear thumbscrew. Both memory slots are populated with 2 x 16 GB DDR5-6400 CSO-DIMM as shipped; ASUS lists a maximum of 64 GB, so moving to 64 GB means replacing both modules. The board has two M.2 2280 NVMe slots - one PCIe Gen4 x4 and one PCIe Gen5 x4 - each supporting 1 TB to 2 TB drives; the 2 TB SSD occupies one, leaving the other free.
Networking
Wired networking is 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet on a Realtek RTL8125D controller. Wireless is Intel Killer Wi-Fi 7 BE1750x, plus Bluetooth 5.4 for controllers, headsets and peripherals.
