MSI MAG 341CQP QD-OLED X24 vs Samsung Odyssey OLED G8: Which Ultrawide Deserves Your Money?
For most PC gamers, the MSI MAG 341CQP QD-OLED X24 looks the stronger buy on paper: a newer 5th-generation RGB-stripe QD-OLED panel, 240Hz against 175Hz, DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification and a lower Singapore price at SourceIT. The Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 34-inch (G85SD) answers with things the MSI does not have: a matte "Glare Free" finish for bright rooms, built-in Wi-Fi and Tizen smart-TV apps, and 10 W speakers. Two caveats. The MSI was listed only on 27 October 2026 and has no independent reviews yet. And SourceIT lists the earlier G85SB version of the Samsung, not the G85SD. The MSI is S$1,309.20 at SourceIT (listed 30 Oct 2026).

Where does the MSI lead?
- Panel generation. The MSI uses Samsung Display's newest Penta Tandem QD-OLED with an RGB-stripe layout. TFTCentral explains that older triangular QD-OLED layouts caused text-fringing problems, which the RGB stripe addresses.
- Refresh rate. 240Hz against 175Hz, a visible step in motion clarity for fast games if your graphics card can keep up.
- HDR certification. True Black 500 and a 1,300-nit peak rating, against an unlisted VESA certification on the Samsung.
- Price at SourceIT. S$1,309.20 against S$1,998 for the earlier Samsung listing.
Where does the Samsung lead?
- Bright rooms. QD-OLED panels without a polariser can show purplish, raised blacks under ambient light. Samsung's matte Glare Free finish targets that; the MSI uses a different coating, DarkArmor Film, whose real-world effect on the X24 is not yet reviewed.
- A screen that works without a PC. Built-in streaming apps, Wi-Fi and speakers make it a bedroom or dorm TV as well as a monitor.
- A known quantity. The G8 has been on sale since 2024, so its behaviour is well documented.
The MSI is the better monitor on paper. The Samsung is the better all-rounder if the screen has to be a TV too.
What about power?
Samsung lists 180 W maximum through an external adaptor. Igor'sLAB measured the 34-inch G8 at about 33 W idle at 200 nits and 98 W on a full white screen. MSI publishes no power figure for the X24 in our sources. Both will use more power on bright white content than on dark games, as all OLEDs do.
Which should you buy?
- MSI MAG 341CQP X24 for PC gaming at the highest refresh rate in this pair, with the newest panel and the lower price, if you can wait for the first reviews.
- Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 if you want smart-TV apps and speakers in one screen, or game in a bright room and prefer a matte finish.
- A step up: MSI's 360Hz options are compared in MSI MEG X vs MAG 341CQP X24.
