The Ultrastar Data102 is Western Digital's 102-bay 4U hybrid storage platform, supplied here factory-populated with 60 x Ultrastar enterprise HDDs for 480TB to 1.32PB of raw capacity, with the remaining bays free to grow into. Choose dual-port 12Gb/s SAS for high availability or single-port 6Gb/s SATA for lowest cost per TB.
IsoVibe and ArcticFlow
Patented IsoVibe precision cuts in the baseboard isolate each drive from transmitted vibration so performance stays consistent under full load, while ArcticFlow thermal-zone cooling feeds cool air into the centre of the chassis for lower, more stable drive temperatures, slower fans, less power and less noise.
Built for Software-Defined Storage
Dual redundant I/O modules with up to 12 x 12Gb/s SAS-3 host connections, SES and Redfish management, cable-free hot-swap serviceability and a 5-year limited warranty make it a proven building block for cloud, HPC, backup and active-archive deployments behind Ceph, ZFS, Windows Storage Spaces, Open-E and similar software-defined stacks.

Compatibility
Connects to any server with a 12Gb/s SAS HBA or RAID controller via Mini-SAS HD (SFF-8644) cables; SATA-populated units are single-path only, SAS-populated units support dual-path high-availability topologies. Third-party SAS drive features are supported where mandatory under the SAS specification.

SAS or SATA — which should I choose?
SAS drives are dual-port for high-availability, dual-controller designs; SATA drives are single-port and lower cost per TB for single-host deployments.
Is a RAID controller included?
No. This is a JBOD (just a bunch of disks) enclosure — data protection is handled by your server's RAID/HBA or software-defined storage layer.
Can I expand beyond one enclosure?
Yes. Up to 4 units can be daisy-chained from a single host connection.
