Frequently Asked Questions — USB-EXT-2
How far can the USB-EXT-2 extend USB?
Up to 100 m (330 ft) over a single solid-core CAT5e (or better) twisted-pair cable, with a minimum cable length of 1.8 m (6 ft).
Does it need drivers or configuration?
No. It provides transparent point-to-point USB extension with no configuration or programming, and is plug-and-play with Windows, macOS and Linux for most USB 1.1 and 2.0 devices.
How many USB devices can I connect?
The Remote endpoint has two USB Type-A ports. With up to 4 USB hubs (not included), a signal chain supports up to 30 USB devices (or 4 hubs with 26 devices).
Can I mix surface units and wall plates?
Yes. The USB-EXT-2-LOCAL and -REMOTE are compatible with the USB-EXT-2-LOCAL-1G and -REMOTE-1G wall plates via the LINK connection. Note that wall plate power sources cannot power the surface units.
Can it route USB over my network?
No. The USB-EXT-2 does not switch, route or connect to a network. For network-based USB routing Crestron offers the USB-NX2 and USB-EXT-DM extenders.
