The GV32 is lit by an LED engine rated at 20,000 hours in Normal mode and 30,000 hours in ECO. For a portable projector that matters twice over: there is no lamp module to replace in a unit this small, and LED runs cool enough that the whole projector weighs 1.6 kg and stays at a published 26 dBA. A lamp projector of similar output would need a bigger cooling path and a fan you would hear across a quiet bedroom. LED also strikes instantly, so the GV32 goes from carried to watching in seconds rather than warming up.
Google TV Built In, No Dongle to Carry
Google TV on Android 11 runs on the projector itself, over dual-band Wi-Fi with Bluetooth 5.0, Google Cast and iOS mirroring. Nothing else has to travel with it: no streaming stick, no second power supply, no extra remote. Pick it up, put it down in another room or another home, connect to the Wi-Fi and the apps are already signed in. The single HDMI 2.0b input with HDCP 2.3 is there for a console, a laptop or a set-top box when one is available, but the projector is designed to be useful with nothing plugged into it at all.
USB-C Power In and Out, Plus Auto Focus and Auto Keystone
The USB Type-C port carries DisplayPort video, accepts power delivery in at 20V and 3 to 5A, and supplies 5V/1.5A out. In practice that means a single cable from a laptop for picture and power, or running the projector from a USB-C power bank of sufficient output rather than a wall socket. Setup is automatic: auto focus, 2D auto keystone of +/-20 degrees vertically and +/-30 degrees horizontally, and +/-30 degrees of rotation correction, so the image squares up wherever the projector is set down - on a shelf, on the floor, angled up at a ceiling.
1080p at 500 Lumens With a 10W Chamber Woofer
Native 1080p (1920x1080) at 500 ANSI lumens with a published 100,000:1 contrast ratio and 95% Rec.709 coverage is a specification for a darkened room - a bedroom at night, a ceiling above a bed, a camping tent, a small meeting space with the blinds down - rather than a bright lounge. The audio is unusually serious for the size: two 4W drivers plus a 10W chamber woofer, and HDMI ARC for 5.1-channel pass-through. At a 1.2 throw ratio a 100-inch image needs about 2.7 metres, and a 60-inch image about 1.6 metres.

Throw distance and screen size
The throw ratio is a fixed 1.2, so throw distance equals image width multiplied by 1.2. Working from that published figure: a 60-inch 16:9 image is 1.33 metres wide and needs about 1.6 metres; an 80-inch image is 1.77 metres wide and needs about 2.1 metres; a 100-inch image is 2.21 metres wide and needs about 2.7 metres. There is no optical zoom, so image size is set by where the projector sits. Projection offset is 100%.
Placement and alignment
The GV32 is designed to be set down anywhere and aimed, including straight up at a ceiling. Auto focus plus 2D auto keystone of +/-20 degrees vertical and +/-30 degrees horizontal, with +/-30 degrees of rotation correction, squares the image without manual adjustment. No mount is required for normal use.
What it connects to
One HDMI 2.0b input with HDCP 2.3 takes a console, a laptop or a set-top box, and supports ARC for 5.1-channel audio return. USB Type-C carries DisplayPort video and power delivery in at 20V 3-5A, so a laptop or a suitable power bank can both drive and power the projector; it also supplies 5V 1.5A out. What light source does it use, and is there a lamp to replace?
An LED light source rated at 20,000 hours in Normal mode and 30,000 hours in ECO. There is no lamp module, so nothing has to be replaced during normal ownership. LED is also what keeps the projector to 1.6 kg and 26 dBA - a lamp of comparable output would need significantly more cooling.
How does LED compare with the laser GV50?
Both are solid-state with no lamp to change, and BenQ specifies both at 500 ANSI lumens and 1080p. The difference is the illumination technology itself rather than a headline brightness gap, so choose on price, availability and the rest of the feature set.
Is 500 lumens bright enough?
500 ANSI lumens is a dark-room specification. It works well in a bedroom at night, a room with blinds down, or projected onto a ceiling. It is not intended to fight daylight in an open lounge - for that, look at a 3,000 lumen model such as the TK705i.
Does it need a streaming stick?
No. Google TV on Android 11 is built into the projector, with dual-band Wi-Fi, Google Cast, iOS mirroring and Bluetooth 5.0. The HDMI port stays free for a console or a laptop.
Can it run off a power bank?
The USB Type-C port accepts power delivery in at 20V, 3 to 5A, so a USB-C power source that meets that specification can run it. BenQ does not list an internal battery for this model.
