Do Charging Stands Actually Matter, or Are They Just Desk Decorations?
They matter more than they look, but not for everyone. A charging stand turns charging into a habit: you put the headset down at the end of a call and it is full the next morning. On SourceIT's current listings, adding a stand to the same headset costs between S$10.80 and S$105.00. That is easy to justify for a fixed desk with heavy call use, and harder to justify for someone who travels with their headset or hot-desks.
This article compares real headset listings sold with and without a stand, looks at what vendors say the stand actually does, and sets out who should pay for one. If you are still choosing between radio technologies, read DECT vs Bluetooth Headset for the Office: Singapore Guide first, because some DECT headsets need a base station anyway.
What does a headset charging stand actually do?
Strip away the marketing and a Bluetooth headset stand does three things.
- It charges without fiddling with a cable. HP Poly's user guide for the Voyager 4300 UC series says you can charge the headset with the USB cable or with the charge stand on selected models. Either way the power comes from a computer or a wall charger.
- It gives the headset a fixed home. Yealink describes its optional BH74 stand as a way to keep the headset powered and ready. Jabra's cleaning guide suggests docking the headset or keeping it in a case to protect it from scratches and dust.
- It shows the headset's status at a glance. Jabra lists a "deskstand docking indication" among the Evolve2 55's LED signals, so you can tell the headset is seated and charging.
A stand does not improve call quality, extend talk time or add features. If someone tells you a stand makes a headset sound better, that is not what the vendor documentation says.

| Jabra Evolve3 75 UC, USB-C | S$360.00 | S$399.60 | S$39.60 (11.0%) |
| Jabra Evolve3 85 UC, USB-C | S$450.00 | S$495.60 | S$45.60 (10.1%) |
| HP Poly Voyager 4310 UC Mono, USB-C | S$200.09 | S$218.85 | S$18.76 (9.4%) |
| HP Poly Voyager 4320 UC Stereo, USB-C | S$218.85 | S$237.61 | S$18.76 (8.6%) |

| Yealink BH74 MS Dual, USB-C/A | S$186.30 | S$197.10 | S$10.80 (5.8%) |
| Yealink WH68 Hybrid Teams (DECT and Bluetooth) | S$226.12 | S$241.31 | S$15.19 (6.7%) |
The pattern is clear. On the Yealink and HP Poly listings above, the stand adds less than 10%, so it is almost a default choice for a fixed desk. On Jabra's Evolve2 line it adds 12.6% to 31.8%, and on the newer Evolve3 line 10.1% to 30.7%. The Evolve3 85 and 75 stands add the least of any Jabra model here, about 10% to 11%.
Jabra's Evolve3 65 Flex is the odd one out: instead of a stand it comes with an optional wireless charging pad, which adds S$63.24 to the headset's S$376.68.
Does battery life make the stand unnecessary?
For many people it does. Vendor talk-time figures are now long enough to cover several working days.
- Jabra lists up to 35 hours of talk time for the Evolve2 65 with the busylight off, and up to 90 minutes for a full charge.
- Yealink lists up to 32 hours of talk time for the BH74 with ANC on, and says a 5-minute fast charge gives 45 minutes of listening.
- Jabra lists up to 16 hours of talk time for the Evolve2 55 with ANC and busylight off, and says the battery reaches 50% after 30 minutes of charging.
- HP Poly's guide says the Voyager 4300 UC series takes about 90 minutes to charge fully.
So the stand is less about running out mid-call and more about routine. Someone who plugs in a USB-C cable every Friday will be fine without one. Someone who forgets, or who uses the headset for six or more hours of calls a day, gets more value from a place to drop it. As a rule of thumb, the shorter the talk time and the heavier the use, the stronger the case for a stand. The Evolve2 55, with less than half the Evolve2 65's talk time, is a good example.
Who gets the most value from a charging stand?
- Fixed-desk, heavy-call roles. Contact-centre staff, inside sales and support teams who are on calls most of the day benefit most from never having to think about charging.
- Executives and shared reception desks. A stand keeps the headset in a visible, tidy place, so it does not end up in a drawer or under paperwork.
- Anyone who loses cables. If a USB-C cable goes missing, the headset can still be charged on the stand. HP Poly's troubleshooting advice also suggests plugging the stand into a wall charger if you run out of computer USB ports.
The case is weaker for people who travel with a foldable headset. A stand stays on one desk, and the headset is often somewhere else. The fashion-led, foldable models discussed in Is the Traditional Office Headset About to Become a Fashion Accessory? are built to live in a pouch, which is why some newer models offer wireless charging pads instead of upright stands.
Should hot-desking offices buy stands with every headset?
Usually not. In a hot-desking office, headsets are personal items and desks are shared. Buying a stand with every headset means stands are left on desks people no longer use, or carried around with the headset. Two practical alternatives are:
- Buy the headset without a stand and put USB-C charging at every desk. Most desks already have a monitor, dock or charger with a spare port.
- Put separate stands on a few fixed desks. Some vendors sell stands on their own. SourceIT lists the Yealink Charging Stand for BH70/WH64 Hybrid at S$25.00. Check compatibility for your exact headset model before ordering.
Hygiene is also relevant here. Jabra's cleaning guidance says it does not recommend sharing ear cushions, which is another reason to keep headsets personal rather than leaving them on a shared stand. For more on cushions, batteries and long-term wear, see Can One Headset Survive 100 Meetings a Month?
What should you check before ordering?
- Decide who has a fixed desk and who travels or hot-desks.
- Compare the stand premium for your chosen model. It ranges from S$10.80 to S$105.00 on the listings above.
- Match the stand's connector (USB-A or USB-C) to the computers, docks or chargers on your desks.
- Check whether a standalone stand exists for your model in case you want to add it later.
- For heavy-call roles, choose a model with long talk time and a stand. For mobile staff, choose long talk time and a carry pouch.
- Ask for a quotation covering both versions if you are buying in volume.
What else do buyers ask about headset charging stands?
Does a charging stand improve headset audio? No. Vendor documentation describes the stand as a charging and storage accessory. Audio quality depends on the headset, its microphones and its settings.
How much extra does a stand cost at SourceIT? On matched listings as of 25 Oct 2026, the stand adds between S$10.80 (Yealink BH74) and S$105.00 (Jabra Evolve2 65 UC Stereo USB-C) to the headset-only price.
Can I charge the headset without the stand? Usually, yes. HP Poly's Voyager 4300 UC guide lists both the USB cable and the charge stand as charging options, and Yealink says the BH74 charges by USB cable or the optional stand. Check the documentation for your exact model.
Is a stand worth it for hot-desking? Usually not for every user. Headsets are personal items in a hot-desking office, so USB-C charging at each desk, or stands on a few fixed desks, is often the better use of budget.
Can I add a stand later? Sometimes. Some stands are sold separately, such as the Yealink Charging Stand for BH70/WH64 Hybrid, but compatibility is model-specific, so check before you order.
